The Outrouverts Launch Party
Yet, amidst all the nerves, a collection launch also brings a sense of release and joy. It marks the culmination of over a year’s worth of hard work and preparation, ready to be unveiled. It reminds me of my time racing bikes, where I’d meticulously plan my season’s goals and preparations, leaving no detail unchecked. But whether on the bike or on the runway, there comes a moment when you have to ‘show up’, and this year, I was determined to do so in a big way! Welcome to the debut catwalk launch party of I R I S.
Cycling Meets Catwalk
For years, I’ve wanted to showcase cycling apparel on a catwalk in its own fashion show. Why?? Honestly, I’m not entirely sure. While I adore haute couture and draw inspiration from various fashion designers, I’ve always steered clear of conventional fashion and cycling trends in my work.
So, why the catwalk?
To stay true to our brand ethos, it was essential to inject the new collection fashion show with a hefty dose of fun. So, a catwalk with a big fat cheeky wink was a no-brainer!
This meant VIP invitations for all our friends, bubbly, a homemade graffiti catwalk, disco lights, a slightly ‘alternative’ DJ, and fancy snacks like wine gums, licorice, and ‘bitterballen’. Oh, and let’s not forget the smoke machine. Lots and lots of smoke! However, these were merely the icing on the catwalk cake; the real stars were the venue and the models. I chose Cyklist, a cycling cafe in Eindhoven, because it’s my go-to coffee spot and hangout for me and my cycling friends who, conveniently, doubled as the ‘models’. True to I R I S tradition, we didn’t use professional models but rather real cyclists with real bodies. These models are my friends, the folks I love to ride and chill with, and I’m immensely grateful and impressed that they were willing, albeit nervous, to strut their stuff in both old and new I R I S collections.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Having a cafe packed with lovely folks – cycling buddies, former teammates, collaborators, local female cycling communities, and more – for the show was simply incredible. It fills me with pride and gratitude to do what I love and share it with others, especially those who inspire me! For me, I R I S isn’t just about cycling apparel; it’s about community and sharing the joy of riding your bike. It’s about empowering one another to hit the road and discover the potential of our bodies. It’s about not taking life too seriously, ditching comparisons, and blazing our own trails. There should be no judgement based on appearance or speed.
Curtain close
As the curtain closes on The Outrouverts Launch Party, our inaugural fashion show, I’m left buzzing with excitement and gratitude. Experiencing the vibrant atmosphere at the launch party was truly special – an eclectic mix of colourful personalities. It’s a massive motivation for me to keep pushing forward!
Each collection launch is a rollercoaster of emotions, but seeing my creations come to life on the catwalk was incredible. From the meticulous planning to the cheeky winks, and all the bubbly in between, it’s been an unforgettable ride. Thanks to everyone who joined us for the show – your support means the world. Here’s to many more adventures ahead, where cycling meets catwalk and fun never goes out of style!
